Description | Cooperative Play: Building Prosocial Skills Description: Social skills are crucial for relationships and academic success. Cooperative play helps children develop these skills by navigating group dynamics, learning to share, resolve conflicts, and follow rules. These early lessons are important for understanding societal roles and norms. According to self-determination theory, individuals have psychological needs such as belonging, competence, and autonomy. Small-group collaborative learning can meet these needs, leading to a more enjoyable learning experience. This learning experience will review the stages of play and the benefits of collaborative play, offer cooperative learning strategies, and look at additional prosocial skills. The participants will have opportunities to explore children’s books on the subject as well as play with and critique cooperative games. Core of Knowledge: 3 Hours Curriculum |
